Christmas pictures...finally!

Yes, I know I'm horribly late on posting these but better late than never, eh? We spent a glorious 10 days away from Arlington splitting the time between our families. It was great getting to see my dad at Christmastime. (He works overseas and hadn't been home during Christmas for three years). We took a family picture after Church on Sunday and I never really think about what a big family we have until I see a picture of us altogether! Yeah, I'm #2 of 7 but that doesn't seem like so much compared to my dear friend Susan who is #8 of 14!!!
Today we're having a home morning but Tim needs to work on a webpage he's building and I need to seriously clean our house and get organized. I've been on break far too long!
This week I worked 39 hours at my job. Now, I know most people work a 40 hour work week and I have done the same as well. But most people do not sit at a tanning salon for 11.5 hours and have 9 people come in during the WHOLE day!! Luckily, I didn't do that every day but I was there from Monday thru Saturday at least 4 hours at a time. My paycheck will be pretty nice (I say pretty nice because I get paid about $.10 over minimum wage) but I don't think I'll do it again.

Alrighty, well, enough verbage, enjoy the pictures! (more from the Merkin Christmas later on)

Is this how you picture people from the middle east/south east asia? a tablecloth on their heads, folded hands, weakly grinning and wide eyed?

There is so much more to world culture and mideast culture than the stereotype that you perpetuate in that 2nd photo from the "merkins christmas"

If this is how you see people that are racially different from you, all the college degrees in the world are not enough to remove ignorance and stereotyping.

Oh,you will have degrees but you will not have been educated.

To the Anonymous Coward,

First, you make an incredibly hypocritical statement. By what you wrote, it is plain for anybody to see that by accusing Stacy of holding a stereotypical view of easterners, you yourselfhave to stereotype Americans. I am placing extreme emphasis on "have to". This is so because you do not have any knowledge of whom Stacy and her family are whatsoever. You make your conclusion based on the knowledge Stacy gives you of herself from her blog post and pictures. This is the grossest extrapolation made to form a conclusion that I have ever seen. You must be stereotyping Americans as being disconnected from the rest of the world and ignorant of east/southeast Asian culture, and assume Stacy is one of them.

Secondly, why have you made the assumption that this is how Stacy views easterners/Southeast Asians? Again, this point is sorta related to my first point because of the stupidity of your baseless assumptions. What if the guy in the picture (Nathan) was making fun of a friend that he had who held the acting role of an Israelite Shepard in an elementary school drama play? Again, you are foolish to extrapolate this grossly to form your conclusions.

Thirdly, do you have a problem with insecurity and self-image? It’s okay if you wear a turban.

Fourthly, where is your sense of humor?

Lastly, I think we all know who to conclude as the really ignorant person here.

From the Anonymous Coward.

You have no knowledge of me or my background; it will then be an extension of your own logic if I now say that you have a stereotypical view of easterners having stereotypical views of westerners.

Any person who believes that people who are different than himself/herself without having any information to back that up can be accused of stereotyping.

I went by the blog photos and my experiences in the United States, dealing with a sizable number of people that have no clue about other countries, customs and religions, people facing discrimination on racial grounds, and being patronizing told that one religion is superior to all others. American foreign policy is a mutant monster having all these attributes.

You consider that insufficient to make any comments, whilst you go ahead and accuse me of stereotyping with nothing to back your views.

You have a problem with people leaving their comments on your blog, and you react peppering your shaky logic with words like ‘foolish’, ‘baseless’ and ‘stupidity’, not realizing that if I was (in your opinion) making erroneous assumptions based on how little I know of you and your family, you are doing EXACTLY the same thing with NO knowledge of me.

It comes naturally to you to think that I must wear a turban to have to come up with my argument. Have you ever considered that I might be a white Christian?

As for insecurity, yes, I am completely insecure and suffer from low self esteem that comes with wearing a turban. Touche! That was spot on! There was certainly no gross extrapolation to arrive at that conclusion.
Of course! Flawless logic weaving an intricate tapestry that proves beyond doubt that I am a troubled, insecure turbaned anonymous coward.

Anonymous Coward (a.k.a. white Christian),

No knowledge of your background was necessary at all to see the illogicalness in your original post. It is plain as day, I don't know why you can't see that. I just merely analyzed your words for exactly what they said. Nowhere did I have to make an assumption about your ethnicity. Please re-read more carefully. When I say that you are stereotyping Americans, this in no way says that I am assuming you’re NOT an American! For my argument's sake you can be a white Christian if you would like, the argument still holds.

This leads me to my next point. You are being shortsighted when you say that, "Any person who believes that people who are different than himself/herself without having any information to back that up can be accused of stereotyping." You are wrong. When a person assumes that people ARE THE SAME as him/herself can also be accused of stereotyping. So that I didn't stereotype, I made sure not to assume anything about you either!

As for your third and fourth paragraphs, please re-read what I wrote again. And this time, please try to read more carefully. I in no way said or implied that you had insufficient reasons to make any comments on this blog, but merely pointed out that the comments you did make were hypocritical. You accused Stacy of having a limited view of mideast culture and you accused her of perpetuating that limited stereotypical view. I only accused you of stereotyping Americans as having a disconnect with mideast culture, and then projecting that onto Stacy. By projecting that onto Stacy you were stereotyping her by telling her she was stereotyping! This is exactly what you did. To see this, I do not need to make any assumptions about you. You just as easily could be a white Christian American for that matter. You still would have been committing a fallacy of generalization and stereotyping other Americans! Please try to see that.

Now, about the Turban thing. That was just too funny not to say. You can still be a white Christian American, and that was still funny. I am glad to see that your sense of humor started showing up in your remarks at the end. I really did enjoy your sarcasm.

As for your fifth paragraph, I don't have problems with people leaving comments on my blog. And I call a spade a spade.

Have a nice day my fellow white Christian!
